  • What Day and Time of Day Should You Twitter?

    17 June 2009

Twitter is loud, Twitter is quiet Depending on what time of day and on what day you use Twitter, it can be absolutely silent or it can be tremendously loud. According to Hubspot, Thursday late in the evenings is the most active time on Twitter and the least active time is super early on Saturday mornings. Does this mean that you should launch a product at 10:00pm on a Thursday night? Probably not- it's too loud. Should you roll out a press release at 5:00am on a Saturday? Probably not- it's too quiet.

  • Is Twitter Retention a Mythical Unicorn?

    04 May 2009

Twitter users abandon the site Recently, the Nielsen company released data that shows 60% of Twitter users abandon the social network within the first 30 days and the Twitter community was immediately fired up. The Nielsen site states, "Twitter has enjoyed a nice ride over the last few months, but it will not be able to sustain its meteoric rise without establishing a higher level of user loyalty." Uh how do you figure? My first response to the report is that it is flawed in numerous ways ranging from not collecting data on those that abandon Twitter yet return weeks or months later (which I can tell you as an ...

  • Facebook Use Costs Woman Her Job

    28 April 2009

To Quote Trump, "You're Fired!" Today it was reported that a Swiss Insurance worker called in sick because she needed to lay in the dark and couldn't use a computer. The only problem is that her employer saw her Facebook activity during her "sick day." The insurer states that she wasn't fired for her actual activity on Facebook but for "the abuse of trust." 09 March 2009

Big boy pants FAIL If I had giant muscles and was on a high protein diet and weighed at least three digits, I would so be tempted to put microblogging site Twitter in a headlock for their latest move. Twitter got a buncha money and bought some big boy pants by hiring a full time business development manager (an incredible hire, by the way) but that's not the move I'm headlocking them for. Get this, when new users sign up for Twitter, they can see a list of "suggested users" ranging ...

    03 February 2009

A good problem to have? Microblogging site Twitter has a long history of being criticized for an unstable platform, is often misunderstood as a noisy chat room and has been looked at with an mistrusting eye by a public that believes it will eventually monetize through advertising or for use. That said, Twitter's 752% growth in 2008 alone is cause for the company to reexamine itself. This explosion in use is a blessing yet puts a bigger microscope on the company, so is it a good problem to have? Yep. Yes, this massive growth is such a great problem that Twitter has grown ...
