Lucky 13?

Because of a host who had a last minute family emergency, we are hosting the Blog Carnival here on the New Media Lab Blog but we’re not superstitious, so we’ll go ahead and take one for the team and cover Carnival #13! The Social Media Blog Carnival is a roundup of article entries about social media theory, tips and practices and people are encouraged to submit written articles, video blogs or audio podcasts to each week’s roundup.

Who won?

In my eyes, there is a two way tie for the winner because both are well written, highly relevant and informative and both extremely important to this exact moment in social media history and BOTH have controversy written all over them:

But I want more reading!!

Okay, baby bird, I’ve got what you need! Below are some of the other entries to the carnival which are worth reading:

Interesting Judge

This week’s carnival is hosted by Tom Winstead, talented North Carolina photographer who isn’t a blogger but is an active microblogger. We toyed with how to present Tom’s findings since he’s not a blogger and settled on making his announcements here:

The Winner

The winner of this week’s Social Media Blog Carnival is Cliff Forster’s article “A look at AMD’s daring social media strategy“. As you can guess from the title, it’s about AMD’s progressive social media strategy. It is a concise, well-researched and informative post about said strategy and how AMD is using it to connect with their customers and provide superior customer service. Congrats, Cliff!

Runners Up

In second place, Scott Allen’s article “Buzzphoria Social Media Reality Check“. It examines in depth how NOT to launch a social media marketing company. It’s funny and informative, even though it is probably painful for the company mentioned. But, as the title states, it is a reality check.

A good article for the beginner Twitter user is Christine Cavalier’s “How to Start Using Twitter“. It is brief and to the point, and it mentions several useful tools to enhance the Twitter user experience.

So, that’s about it! Thanks to everyone who submitted articles. It was interesting to read them all, although the ones I mentioned above definitely stood out above the rest.

Drumroll…

This week’s host is extra snarky as we knew she would be and not only did Heather announce this week’s blog carnival winners, she gave tips for how to succeed in future carnivals (which also applies to success in blogging in general).

And the winner is…

Head over to Social Media Building Blocks to check out the best of the best writing, vlogging or podcasting about social media (and don’t forget to congratulate the winners!).

Next week’s judge is Tom Winstead which should be interesting as we’ve never had a photographer judge before! If you’d like to judge or get involved with the carnival, email us or read more about carnivals.
